Madonna and Lady Gaga have topped Forbes' list of the highest earning musicians in 2013.
Madonna clocks in at No.1 with $125m – the majority of which came from the singer’s MDNA Tour, which grossed $305m.
At second place is Lady Gaga with $80m after taking to the road on her Queen Monster tour which grossed $168m.
Bon Jovi takes third place at $79m, country singer Toby Keith is
fourth with $65m and rounding off the top five is Coldplay with $64m.
Hip-hop’s highest-paid act Sean “Diddy” Combs ranks No.12 with $50
million. Jay Z stands at No.19 with $42 million while Dr. Dre is No.21
at $40 million.
Runner-up to Keith in the country stakes is Taylor Swift at No.8 with
$55 million, then Kenny Chesney (No.10, $53 million) and Tim McGraw
(No.25, $33 million).
TiĆ«sto at No.26 with $32 million and Calvin Harris at No.14 with $46 million are the world’s two highest-paid DJs.
In order to form the list, income is taken from from June 2012 - June
2013 using data sources including Pollstar, the RIAA, Nielsen
SoundScan, managers, lawyers and the artists themselves.
Concert ticket sales, royalties for recorded music and publishing,
merchandise sales, endorsement deals and other business ventures are
taken into account. The estimates reflect pretax income before deducting
fees for agents, managers and lawyers.
