Two of the most successful composers from two different genres of music,
Paul Simon and Stephen Sondheim, will share the stage for a roundtable
discussion on December 3 at New York's New Museum of Contemporary Art.
The
Chairman's Evening is an event organized by the MacDowell Colony, an
organization that nurtures 'the arts by offering creative individuals of
the highest talent an inspiring environment in which they can produce
enduring works of the imagination.' The colony, located in Peterborough,
NH, is headed by author Michael Chabon who wrote Wonder Boys, The
Mysteries of Pittsburgh and the Pulitzer Price winning The Amazing
Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.
Chabon will join Simon and
Sondheim on stage for a conversation about 'the mysteries of creativity
and the inspirations for their own brilliant careers.'
The event
is a closed affair for patrons of the colony to allow them to get
'exclusive access to the kind of high-octane conversations that inspire
artists at MacDowell every day.'
Sondheim previously received the Edward McDowell Medal for lifetime achievement from the group.
